289.75 Section 07, Monday, October 11

The tasks for Monday, Oct. 11 will focus on two of the topics for this week: Thinking and Questioning and Inquiry-Based Learning. We will focus on Comprehension Strategies on Wednesday, Oct. 13.
· To prepare for the Thinking and Questioning segment, be sure you have read the reading assigned on the calendar (McLaughlin pp. 119-123) and Kellough (pp. 273-283.
· Complete the activities in the Kellough text as follows: Exercise 7.2A p. 278, Exercise 7.2B p. 278, Exercise 7.4 p. 283.
· Read Chapter 12 (McLaughlin). Choose 1 of the strategies discussed that you think would work best in your content area.
· Analyze the strategy as follows:
Ø Describe assignment
Ø Why does this assignment fit into inquiry-based learning?
Ø How would you assess it?
Ø From another content area, how could you use this assignment?
· Explain how these two major topics (Thinking and Questioning and Inquiry-Based Learning) are interrelated. How does understanding one help make sense of the other.

Each student must show evidence of completion of the above activities (answers to be turned in on Wednesday) in order to receive credit for Monday’s class. This work will form the basis for part of the discussion in class Wednesday. On Wednesday we will also discuss requirements for the Literacy Assessment and the Instructional Analysis for Inclusion and begin our discussion of comprehension strategies.
